How to Choose the Right Delete Kit for Your Truck
Share
If you’re tired of constant regen cycles, limp mode, and costly emissions repairs, you’ve
probably thought about installing a delete kit on your diesel truck. But with so many options out
there — different tuners, pipes, and EGR delete setups — it can be overwhelming to figure out
exactly what you need.
At The Diesel Dudes, we’ve helped thousands of diesel owners find the right delete setup for
their truck. This guide will break it down step-by-step, so you can confidently choose the right
delete kit for your build.

exactly what you need.
At The Diesel Dudes, we’ve helped thousands of diesel owners find the right delete setup for
their truck. This guide will break it down step-by-step, so you can confidently choose the right
delete kit for your build.
Step 1: Know Your Truck’s Make, Model, and Year
Delete kits are engine-specific and year-specific, so the first step is always to confirm:
● Engine type (Cummins 6.7L, Duramax LML, Powerstroke 6.7L, etc.)
● Model year
● Whether your truck is a pickup or Cab & Chassis (important for pipe fitment)
For example, a 2016 Ram 2500 Cummins requires a different tuning platform and exhaust setup
than a 2019 F-350 Powerstroke. One size doesn’t fit all — and that’s why we build our kits to
match exact vehicle specs.
Step 2: Pick Your Tuning Platform.
Your tuner is the brain of the delete kit — it replaces the stock emissions software with custom
delete tunes. Here are the most common types:
● EFI Live – Great for Cummins owners, supports switch-on-the-fly tuning, simple
interface.
● EZ Lynk – Plug-and-play, cloud-based, fast support updates, works well for Powerstroke
and Duramax.
● RaceMe – Preferred by Cummins owners who want advanced control and diagnostics.
● Mini Maxx – No longer in production, but still widely used on older trucks for simple
tuning and gauges.
If you're not tech-savvy or don’t want to deal with computers, go for something like EZ Lynk. If
you prefer to be hands-on and tweak things yourself, EFI Live or RaceMe may be a better fit.

Step 3: Choose Your Exhaust Delete Pipe
You’ll need to remove your DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and CAT (Catalytic Converter) to
eliminate regen cycles and reduce backpressure. There are three main options:
● 4” Aluminized – Affordable, durable, and the most common.
● 5” Aluminized – Louder and better airflow, but not ideal if you want a quiet ride.
● With Muffler – Tones down exhaust noise and drone, ideal for daily drivers or family
vehicles.
We always recommend adding the muffler if you care about cabin noise — especially for long
highway drives or towing.
Step 4: Consider the EGR Delete Option
Removing your EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system helps prevent soot buildup, lowers
engine temps, and reduces turbo wear. You can:
● Physically remove it with block-off plates, coolant bypass, and new piping
● Or leave it in place and disable it electronically (good for keeping the engine bay stock-
looking)
If your truck is already out of warranty and you want maximum reliability, go with the full EGR
delete. It’s more work but well worth it in the long run.

Final Tip: Go With a Complete Bundle
Rather than trying to piece together components from multiple places, go with a complete delete bundle like we offer at The Diesel Dudes. Every kit comes pre-loaded with your truck’s
tunes, includes all hardware, and has lifetime support.

you're looking for more power, better MPG, or long-term reliability.
